  • Fictional Dog Draft Metrics

Here are the Metrics we used for the Fictional Dog Draft.

    • 1- Dog Years
Your score is the earliest year of introduction on your team, with earliest being the goal. Paired with metric 2.

    • 2- Just a pup
Your score is the most recent year of introduction on your team, with the most recent introduction being the goal. Paired with metric 1.

    • 3- Get Sirius
Your score is the highest IMDb rating for any feature length theatrical movie (Streaming debut okay) featuring any of your picks. (60+ minutes, no direct to vhs/dvd, must feature the dog in a scene, no background cameos)

    • 4-  Speak!
Your score is the total number of dogs on your team that are fluent in an audible language. Dogs that “half speak” (English, but broken/dog sounds e.g. Scooby, Astro) earn ½ point. Highest points win.

    • 5- A Dog’s Purpose
Your score is the total of points earned by all dogs on your team from this scale:
-If the dog has a “Super” ability (except for speaking), add 1 point.

-If the dog is a family pet, add 1 point.

-If the dog is a sidekick/has a sidekick, add 1 point.

-If the dog has a “real life” job (police dog, mascot, accountant etc), add 1 point.

All points are single values, max of 4 per dog. “Super ability” must be something above and beyond what a dog with training can do (ex: flight is an ability, but playing sports or tracking is not). Family pet is when a dog is part of a family or group, and sidekick is when a dog is generally seen alongside a single other character. Family Pet and Sidekick should be fairly exclusive except in rare cases. Real Life Jobs include dogs doing dog jobs, or dogs doing human jobs.

    • 6- Paw-pularity contest
For each pick on your team, find its rank (if applicable) on the Greatest Dog Characters Ranker List. Your score is the sum of the three highest ranked characters on the ranker list. Lowest score is the goal. Dogs not featured on the list have a rank of 100.

    • 7- Bona-Fidos
Your score is the number of dog characters portrayed in live action. This includes: Live dogs, puppets, animatronics, and humans in costume. All live portrayals are worth 1 point. Each variety of live performance adds one bonus point. Ex; if you had two dogs and a puppet on your team, you’d earn 3 points to start, and an additional 2 points for “live” and “puppet” categories.

    • 8-  Drawn Doggos
Your score is points earned by dog characters portrayed in animation. This includes traditional, CG, stop motion, comic strip, or literary portrayals. All animated portrayals are worth 1 point. Each variety of animation adds one bonus point. Ex; if you had one traditional, one cg, and one stop motion on your team, you’d earn 3 points to start, and 3 points for “traditional” “CG” and “Stop Motion”

    • 9- Best In Show
Your score is the amount of dog breeds on your team that are not represented on any other coach’s team. All robots/cyborg dogs count as robots. Alien/other dog’s species count as their breed. If no breed is specified, if they are a mutt, or are mixed breed, those all count as “mutt” for scoring purposes.

    • 10- 13/10
Your score is 13 for each dog. This means that everyone’s team score will be 65, which will force a scrabble tie breaker. Highest combined scrabble total of all picks on your team wins.
